  I attended the same show (BTW, I'm the same age as you). I've seen James in concert a few times, and am familiar with her "shtick." She's known for being playful and naughty during her performances. She seems to be slowing down, though; she didn't seem to have as much energy during this show as she did at the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Bowl last year. Solomon Burke's set before James was livelier and more enjoyable.

  The evening was lovely. The performer was not. I have waited my whole life (I'm 45) to see this pint-size dynamo live. I was ready to accept that she was 70 and wouldn't be able to hit the long smooth notes of her youth. What I wasn't ready for was her distraction with public masturbation and licking the microphone in anticipation of ********. At first it was amusing, then it never, ever ended. It was sad and embarrassing to watch such a legend fall from grace and perceived elegance. I read somewhere that she was raised in a brothel, it shows. AT LAST, I had enough, packed my things and left long before the show was over. As I was walking away I heard her introduce the band members including several of her children. I was humiliated for them to say the very least. The bus ride to the parking lot was filled with comments from disappointed and disgusted audience members. I was relieved to know that it wasn’t just me that felt violated
